A few weeks ago, members of our association had the opportunity to hear from Matt Nuckolls, a commercial realtor with The Whisenhunt Group, about the philosophy that drives his work.
What stood out most from Matt’s presentation was a simple idea: his business is built around serving others.
A Lubbock Story That Started at Texas Tech
Matt originally came to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University, and like many who come here for school, he found something special about the community and decided to stay.
After graduating, Matt spent 13 years helping grow his family business, Big Plate, where he worked closely with local business owners and entrepreneurs. During that time, he built strong relationships and gained firsthand experience in what it takes for a business to operate, expand, and succeed.
Those years shaped his professional outlook. His work was never just about transactions — it was about helping people build something meaningful in the community.
A Natural Transition Into Commercial Real Estate
When the family business eventually sold, Matt began thinking about what the next chapter might look like. Commercial real estate turned out to be a natural fit.
It allowed him to combine everything he had learned over the previous two decades — working with business owners, understanding operational needs, and building relationships — into a career focused on helping businesses find the right place to grow.
Matt shared that the timing of his transition felt especially meaningful. On the very day the family business transaction closed, he received what he described as a “God-timed call” from Cole Whisenhunt, which ultimately led him to join The Whisenhunt Group.
Since then, he hasn’t looked back.
